What is photo styling? The goal of photo styling is to make
a photograph look natural, as if no stylist was involved. Weeks of planning may
be involved including scheduling, booking models, prop shopping, travel to
locations, hotel rooms, and meals.
Photo styling jobs played a large role in KAP Arts past work
with University bookstores. We designed many college bookstore catalogs,
including layout, editing, and print coordination. Hours were spent photo
styling products in a studio setting, as well as directing live models in and
out of the studio. Most college
bookstores now have websites to showcase their product and apparel offerings.
It’s cost effective, and eliminates postage fees that accompanied mailing
catalogs to Alumni. Big savings!
Currently we are working with Glory Bee Foods to create updated
images to use in their catalog. Although we are not involved in the design
aspect of the catalog we are happy to help create great images to fit into
their existing catalog format. We really look forward to using our photo
styling skills, as those jobs have become fewer and further between.
We have been diligently working to layout designs, and
gather props that will enhance each catalog photo, and project a feeling of
“coming home” which Glory Bee Foods seems to emanate. They carry natural and organic products from daily
supplements, to honey (of course), to soaps, to a high quality line of products
inspired by Aunt Patty. Yes, there really is an Aunt Patty. In fact, we are
looking forward to a photo shoot, on location, in Aunt Patty’s kitchen,
complete with Aunt Patty and some of her creations.
Photo styling brings an element of creative control to each
image. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
