Fashion changes seasonally as do the colors in fashion,
design and nature. Staying current on what is trending is part of the design
process, whether it be, graphic design, interior design, or fashion design.
There are tools available to keep you up to date on color trends, and there are
tools that give examples of which colors work well together, and what
impression they give or moods they may emote. Are you looking for an
“energetic”, “fanciful”, or “unique” color combination, or do you need to stay
within a specific color scheme? Maybe you’re looking for a “Robust” color
combination? “A more sophisticated
and less rustic version for earth tones…” Look no further; we have the perfect
book recommendation for you.
“Pantone Guide
to Communicating With Color” by Leatrice Eisemann
Many of the color combinations included in the book are
ones I would never have imagined combining. There are examples of color
combinations, as they would look side by side, usually 4 colors together in
each combination. A few are accompanied with examples of their use on a printed
piece.
The entire book is inspirational. “In this one source, you’ll find everything you need to make color work
in your designs… Created especially for anyone interested in the psychology of
color and meaningful color combinations, this guide uses Pantone’s universally
utilized color systems to ensure that color comes out just the way you like —
no surprises.” (-From the back of the book)
I think you will find this
book not only visually stimulating, but intellectually informative. Fashion may
be one of the first places we look for “cutting edge” color, but it is the life
experience of designers, along with the current state of the world and it’s
many issues, which may have the biggest influence on color palettes here and
now.
